POWERFUL FRIEND

Today we heard the story of Zacchaeus – a man who nobody liked. Zacchaeus had no friends because he was dishonest and a cheat. But Jesus chose HIM to have dinner with because he loved him. Jesus accepted Zacchaeus as he was and Zacchaeus changed!

Jesus accepts us as we are; he wants to be our friend, too. When we choose to become a follower of Jesus the Holy Spirit changes us to become more like Jesus – just as Zacchaeus did.

Remember, nothing can stop Jesus loving you!

Our Bible verse for this week is,

I want you to know about the great and mighty power that God has for us followers.  It is the same wonderful power he used when he raised Christ from death and let him sit at his right side in heaven. Ephesians 1:19&20

Jesus is a friend who CARES. He cared for his disciples when they were tired, he cared about the people when they wanted to hear more about God, and he cared for them when they were hungry and had no food.

Jesus still cares about us today. We can tell him about our problems, our desires and our needs. We can trust him to do what is best for us. What an amazing friend to have!!

Jesus is more than just a Living Legend, he's an amazing, powerful friend.  He will always listen to us – he’s never too busy or distracted by something else.

Today we heard how Jesus stopped and listened to blind Bartimaeus when everyone else tried to keep him quiet. Amongst all the noise going on around him, Jesus heard that one voice calling out to him.

And the really good thing? When we call out to Jesus, he hears us, too. And he listens.

We can talk to Jesus anytime, anywhere, about anything!

Today we heard how Jesus brought Lazarus back to life again, even though he had been dead for 4 days! It is always sad when someone we love dies; even Jesus cried when Lazarus died. However, we need to remember that Jesus will be around after we die – that’s why it’s important to be his friend now. When we are a friend of Jesus we don’t have to be afraid of death because we know we will live forever with God.

Not only did Jesus have power over nature, but today we saw how Jesus had power over sickness and the power to forgive sins!

The Jewish leaders were right when they said only God can forgive sins. However, Jesus proved he had power to forgive sins by doing something impossible - healing the crippled man.

So, who is this man? THIS MAN IS GOD!

Jesus did have power to forgive sins because he is God. Jesus knew the crippled man needed to have his sins forgiven more than he needed to be able to walk again.

It is the same for all of us. We need forgiveness for disobeying God far more than anything else – and Jesus has the power to do just that!!
